✨Primary Bathroom Addition for a 1920s Home – A Fresh, Light, Period-Friendly Remodel

✨Primary Bathroom Addition for a 1920s Home – A Fresh, Light, Period-Friendly Remodel
For this 1920s home in Washington, our client wanted a primary bathroom addition that respects the character of the original architecture while bringing in a clean, bright, and timeless design. Our concept takes the charm of the home’s era and pairs it with soft coastal-inspired touches, modern function, and a calming tonal palette.

What We Designed
A Soft, Neutral Envelope with Full Wall Paneling
All walls are painted in Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore, creating a crisp and fresh foundation for the space. Instead of contrasting tones or decorative arches, we grounded the design in full paneling on all walls, bringing subtle texture and a period-appropriate architectural detail that feels historically aligned yet updated for a modern lifestyle.
A Richly Stained Wood Vanity
To anchor the room visually, we selected a warm, richly stained wood vanity that feels both elevated and true to older homes. It adds warmth against the bright white palette and complements the mixed metal details throughout.
Timeless Stone and Tile Selections
The material selections create a balanced, cohesive experience:
• Iceberg honed marble tile for the walls brings soft veining and gentle movement
• Snow White honed marble mosaic tile for the shower floor adds subtle patterning that supports slip resistance and classic appeal
• A white marble countertop ties the palette together, maintaining brightness while layering natural stone variation
Mixed Metals With Purpose
The hardware and plumbing fixtures blend finishes for both design and durability:
• Warm brass hardware from the Keller Collection introduces a hint of aged elegance
• Brushed nickel plumbing fixtures provide resilience in a region with hard water while keeping the aesthetic soft and timeless
Thoughtful Lighting and Mirrors
To enhance brightness and create a sense of symmetry, we chose:
• Two Delilah metal-frame mirrors for clean, classic lines
• Minimal vanity lighting to maintain the period-friendly feel
• A two-tier round glass chandelier above the tub area for a coastal-inspired touch that introduces airy elegance without overwhelming the architecture

Why This Design Works for a Historic Home
Historic homes require a sensitive approach. Our design uses:
• Clean paneling to add period-appropriate architectural detail
• Natural stone finishes for authenticity and longevity
• A tonal palette that feels fresh without compromising the home’s character
• High-quality fixtures that balance modern convenience with classic aesthetics
The result is a primary bathroom that feels original to the home — only brighter, more functional, and tailored for modern living.
