Your home should reflect more than your personal style. It should make sense for how you live.
We consider everything from the way a room is laid out to the cabinetry, lighting, materials and furnishings that bring it together.
And because we build what we design, we understand how those decisions translate beyond the drawings.
Whether you're refreshing one room or designing an entire home, we'd love to hear what you have in mind.
Before we start selecting materials or drawing layouts, we want to understand you.
What's working in your home? What isn't? What have you always wanted to change?
Those conversations shape the direction of the design.
From there, we develop the layouts, selections and details, making sure the decisions work together before moving into construction.
Design is a separate professional service. You can hire MDT for design alone or continue with our team into construction.
A fresh perspective.
You might love your home but feel like something is missing.

Rethinking the room.
Sometimes a room needs more than new furniture.
Maybe the layout doesn't work, the proportions feel off, or you're ready to update the finishes throughout.
We look at the room as a whole, developing the furniture layout, materials, lighting and selections together so you can see exactly where the design is going.
You receive
• Everything in Design Direction, with selections expanded to 40 total
• A scaled furniture and space plan
• Up to 40 total selections across furnishings, finishes, fixtures and materials
• Two 3D renderings of your room
• Two rounds of revisions
How it works: Virtual or in person.
Timeline: 5 to 6 weeks
Investment: Customized pricing, based on your room and the scope of the design. Shared after your Discovery Call.
From the layout to the smallest detail.
This is where we get into the more involved design work. Kitchens, bathrooms, whole-home renovations and new construction require a different level of planning.
We're looking at cabinetry, how you move through the space, lighting placement, material transitions, custom details and how everything will actually be installed.
The work happens in stages, beginning with the overall concept and moving into more detailed selections and drawings. You'll know what we're working on, what you'll receive and what each stage costs before moving forward.
Each phase has its own scope, deliverables and fee. You decide whether to move forward with the next stage once the current phase is complete.
The stages
• Conceptual Design: space planning, layout studies and material direction
• Design Development: selections, cabinetry design, furnishings and renderings
• Detailed Design: interior elevations, millwork details, lighting plans and finish schedules
• Procurement and Installation: purchasing, coordination and final styling, if you choose
How it works: Begins with an in-home Design Consultation, followed by a personalized proposal. Construction is priced separately, from the finished design. MDT can build it, or your design can go to any contractor.
Investment: Customized pricing. Every full-service project is different. Your investment is shared in a personalized proposal after your Design Consultation, once we understand your home and your goals.
Our Full-Service Interior Design includes the interior drawings, elevations, details and specifications outlined in your personalized design proposal: cabinetry and millwork details, interior lighting layouts, tile layouts, finish schedules, and material and fixture specifications.
Architectural plans, structural engineering, Title 24 documentation, permitting and construction are not included in our interior design fees. When your project requires them, they can be coordinated and quoted separately through MDT Design & Build.
Design Direction and Room Design do not include purchasing or installation.
Virtual design is developed using client-provided photographs, dimensions and existing plans. Field verification and any additional technical services, when required, are quoted separately.
Design Management
Creating the design is one part of the process. Bringing it to life requires another level of coordination.
Once construction begins, questions come up. Details need to be confirmed, drawings reviewed, and selections coordinated with the people doing the work.
When MDT builds it: part of our construction management.
When MDT builds your project, coordinating your design with the work on site is part of our construction management process. Design changes requested after your design is approved are handled separately, as additional design services.
When you hire your own contractor: a separate Design Management service.
If you've chosen another contractor, MDT can stay involved through Design Management, tailored to the support your project requires. It isn't included in your design fee, and the level of involvement is outlined in your proposal:
• Site visits at key stages
• Answering contractor and trade questions
• Reviewing cabinet and fabrication drawings
• Coordinating orders and deliveries
• Checking that the design is installed as drawn
Your design fee covers creating the design. Seeing it through construction is its own scope, defined up front so there are no surprises.
How do I know which design service is right for me?
You don't have to figure that out alone. Some spaces need a fresh perspective, while others deserve an entirely new approach. We'll help you understand which level of design makes sense for your home.
Can we work together if I'm not planning a renovation?
Absolutely. A meaningful transformation doesn't always require construction. Sometimes it's the right furniture, better proportions, layered lighting, or the details that finally bring a room together. Our virtual design services were created for exactly that.
What makes designing with MDT different?
We understand design from both sides. We know how a detail will look, but we also understand what it takes to create it. From cabinetry and lighting to stone fabrication and construction, we consider how every decision influences the next.
Is interior design included with construction?
Design is a professional service in its own right. We develop your vision first, working through the layouts, materials, selections and details before preparing construction pricing. And if you only need us for design, that's perfectly fine too.
If I use my own contractor, will you be involved during construction?
We can be. If you're working with another contractor, we offer Design Management as a separate service. This allows us to stay involved with design-related questions, review details and help communicate the design as construction progresses. We'll outline the level of involvement in your proposal so you know exactly what's included.
Do I have to commit to the entire design process?
Not at all. Our full-service experience is developed in stages, so you'll understand what's included, what comes next, and the investment involved before authorizing each phase.
Can we work together if I live outside your area?
Yes. Our virtual design services allow us to work with clients throughout California and beyond. For projects requiring in-person involvement, we primarily serve Riverside, the Inland Empire and Orange County.
You don't need to have every detail figured out before reaching out.
That's what the design process is for.
Tell us what you're imagining, what you'd like to change and what matters most to you. We'll help you figure out where to begin.
